Welcome to Praze-an-Beeble Women’s Institute! We meet on the second Monday of most months at 7.15 pm at The Institute, Fore Street, Praze-an-Beeble TR14 OJU. We are a forward-looking, friendly WI with about forty members at present. We are based in the thriving village of Praze-an-Beeble near Camborne in Cornwall, with members from nearby Nancegollan, Troon, Crowan and further afield. We are lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country – well, we think so!
We are proud of our sixty-year heritage (and particularly proud of Jean, our tea hostess, who has been there for fifty of those sixty years – you’ll know her if you see her, she’s the one with the big smile). We love to get involved in local events like the Praze Carnival and also to compete on a bigger stage, as we did in 2016 when our Cornish Hedge team won the Allsop Cup. Why not visit our About page to learn more, or take a look at the Programme to see upcoming events?
We are part of the Cornwall Federation of Womens Institutes. The Women’s Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. The WI celebrated its centenary in 2015 and currently has almost 220,000 members in approximately 6,300 WIs. The WI is a political organisation as well as a social one. WI campaigns are about changing things for the better and tackling the issues that matter to members.
